Words for Wanderers
Stories on choosing courage, faith, and joy in life abroad.
I never expected to move to Korea. In fact, after a life growing up between three countries and moving around every few years, I was trying to put down roots in my birth country, the UK.
However, I faced one closed door after another. It was during the Pandemic; I had lost my radio job, and I simply couldn’t find work.
I began to consider moving abroad again, and for some reason, one country kept popping up again and again — Korea! Would it be worth the risk to move abroad and go back to English teaching (a field I thought I had left behind)?
I decided to follow my grandmother’s advice to “push the door and see if it opens” — and a mere month after applying for a teaching position in Korea, I was on a plane heading towards my new life.
I met my husband in Korea, another surprise which led me to put down deeper roots into the country.
Now I teach, write, and reflect on the lessons in courage and faith that I’m learning from my life abroad.
Join me on the journey! I share monthly stories, reflections, and resources.
Whether you are a fellow TCK, live overseas, and love travel — or whether you simply need some courage and faith for your own new beginnings and life journeys — I hope you’ll find some encouragement here.
